A Musician Resource That Comes From Experience
We wanted to recommend a few books that are among our favorites. We found these to be extremely helpful -- hope you do too.
| I am finding this is my "go-to" these days...It's easier to read, understand and perhaps more real-life scripted. Written by two brothers that are entertainment lawyers, formerly musicians. They know the business, love it and the people involved. Great protection advice. | | This book/CD is not about songwriting, but it will expand your thinking about music, composition and how several great composers have used Rhythm, Melody & Harmony. Good chapter on Practice also. If you can find them, the accompanying videos/DVDs are great for classroom or family use. Very informative but FUN. Jazz musician, Wynton Marsalis, really delivers some foundational "news you can use" here. You will be inspired and informed... great combination. |
| No, this isn't fun reading. It's a great reference. I've needed this one more than all the others combined. They update regularly so be sure to buy the most recent edition. Topics range from Contracts and Copyright issues to Taxation in the music business. | | This is very comprehensive. Covering everything from avoiding cliches, verse development, continuity, perspective, point of view, meter, rhyme, form, etc. Her writing and format make it an "easy-read." |
Hope that helps you find that vibe!
