Does Music Theory online remind you of getting a root canal?

Don't worry! We have made this absolutely painless!

There are many great sites that teach all of Music Theory Online.

That is not our focus. Whether you know a little theory, a lot of theory, or no theory at all -- we will teach you the

Principles Behind Music Theory
that Make a Song Work

Songwriting trends may come and go, but 3 things are found in all music. They are the 3 areas that make up music theory.

(These I cannot take credit for.) :-)

RHYTHM

MELODY and

HARMONY

From Mozart to Motown, Swingers to Rappers, the elements are the same when it comes to how to write music.

The mechanics of music haven't really changed for centuries. (Yeah, yeah, I know there are exceptions...I'll address them later!)

Just like 2 + 2 = 4 ... Music Is Math. The basic mechanics of music theory CAN be written down and explained.

I like to refer to this as the LEFT BRAIN part of music study.

The RIGHT BRAIN part has more to do with your creativity and personality. This is the personal side of songwriting where INSPIRATION flows.

(For more on that, click here to go to Rhythm Without the Blues.)

When these two ingredients collide -- MECHANICS & INSPIRATION, magic happens...music happens...great songs happen.

The truth is that magic doesn't happen without some work involved. And no job can be done well without the right tools.

That's where I come in...

I will look closely at each of these elements of music and give you understanding about how they work together to create a great song.

This will give you a WORKING KNOWLEDGE of Rhythm, Melody and Harmony.

These are the keys for anyone, no matter what style. These are the essentials for songwriting.

Then we can move beyond that to growing the Songwriting Vibe that is uniquely yours.

So, if you are making your own music for the first time or you've just recorded your 3rd CD, let's get busy and get our groove on.

Rhythm -- The Unsung Hero

MUSIC RHYTHM is the first layer we want to address in our Principles of Music Theory Online and in Time.

Rhythm is the most basic of all music elements.

It is the foundation.

Rhythm is not only the foundation for all musical notation, but the foundation for music itself!

If you are willing to put into practice what I preach, you will learn

Melody that is Ruled by Lyric the King

MELODY is the next layer we add in our Principles of Music Theory Online Series.

We will begin to paint those rhythms with different pitches.

But remember, melody must always submit to Lyric who is King.

We will show you

Harmony that Makes Your Case

HARMONY is the final layer in Principles of Music Theory Online and In Time.

Melodies are made colorful by the use of harmony.

Harmony must complete the song's vibe.

Step by step you can learn the principles that drive these concepts. These are the tools to help identify the weak parts to your songs. And the strategy to strengthen your songs and your sound!

So-o-o-o-o-o... if you're serious about learning how to write music...don't let the scary words MUSIC THEORY put you off!

Let's get our vibe on!

Our skills will improve, our hearts will expand, and our songs will keep getting better.

And that, my friend, is why we are here. Count us in!
