Learning How to Write Music
and Find Your Vibe!

As you learn how to write music that is your own, with your own sound, THEN you are getting somewhere as an artist!

We have said time and again, our site is about helping you find a great song vibe. A great SONG vibe is essential for any great song. (See more about this on our HOME page .)

But there is another important vibe that you must be focused on and develop as a songwriter. That is your OWN VIBE!

As you learn how to write music, you want it to have your own vibe on it.

How am I so certain that somewhere inside you there lives your "own unique vibe?"

Because you are the only one who is you! No one can sound just like you.

Many times as you become very familiar with a songwriter or musician, you can "spot" their voice or sound without being told. Stevie Wonder doesn't write songs that sound like Phil Collins' songs. And Nora Jones doesn't sound like Feist. You get the point...

Let me jump here for a moment and "introduce" myself. I am known as "The Vibe Guy." There are a couple of reasons for that.

The first is that I am a vibraphonist. (If you don't know what that instrument is, you can click on the player below to hear a sample of my playing.)

"Vibe" is short for vibraphone....that's why I'm the Vibe Guy. : )

But also, I am the Vibe Guy because I produce others' songs and bring out their vibe! That is what I love to do. Help YOU find your unique sound.

So, HOW do all of the songwriting tips, and music theory, and lyric polishing come together to create YOUR OWN VIBE?

Unfortunately, many times when inexperienced songwriters go to make their own sound, they think this means they don't have to work within the borders of good songwriting.

This is not what I'm saying!

A scale is a scale. A key is a key. And the wrong form can still kill your song.

In fact the more you understand about song structure and music theory, the more tools you have to explore and express your vibe!

That is why our site is focused on both the technical and the MYSTICAL, if you will.

Click here for more on the technical. Lyric Technique or Music Theory

Check out these articles that look at some of the specifics about how to write music and grow as a songwriter. And in the process help you find your own vibe!

Don't Let the Great Ideas Get Away

Inspiration for a song often comes at inconvenient moments, driving down the road, walking through a crowded street, etc...what do you do then?

One of the most important tools is to understand how to move at the moment! If you want to become a songwriter, you have to capture that great idea before it leaves you! But how do you do that?

This will teach you to how to get the idea before it gets away from you. Even if you are nowhere near a studio.

How Do You Develop Your Own Vibe

Finding Your Vibe is sort of like "finding yourself." It is an ongoing process. It is the backdrop for all of your writing.

What are the key questions that you should continually ask to sharpen your sound?

As you are learning how to write music, the goal is for you to find the unique sound that only you can create!
